The critically acclaimed hand-drawn side scrolling run and gun game Cuphead , was set to receive it’s first expansion which was announced at E3 by Studio MDHR . Adding new playable character Ms. Chalice , bosses, weapons, as well as more levels , but the Delicious Last Course DLC has now been pushed back to 2020. The expansion delay is affecting all platforms, including PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
In a recent tweet Studio MDHR revealed the Dlc is in need of fine tuning . they’re taking the time to make sure the content “meets the meticulous level of care and quality” they always strive for.
The developer also suggests it’s hoping to avoid the crunch culture that permeates the games industry like Treyarch and Rockstar Games coming under fire for overworking its employees.
“While we initially announced a 2019 release date for the Delicious Last Course expansion, our highest priority is making sure this new adventure meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for,” said the studio today explaining the decision. “Furthermore, the development of the original game taught us a great deal about the importance of making things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team.”

The sidescroller run-and-gun game features hand-drawn animation inspired by the classic cartoons of the early 20th century. As of August 2018, it had sold over 3 million copies.
