Gamescom 2019 Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding New Footage and Character Spotlight Trailers

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding: Exclusive Gamescom Trailer’s Reveal Norman Reedus’ Main Mission at this years Gamescom 2019

World renowned Hideo Kojima, co-writer/producer/director/designer of soon to be released Death Stranding has spoilt fans at GameCom to an inside sneak peek at gameplay footage of this highly anticipated new title. Speaking afterwards about the footage, his enigmatic explaination left fans as confused as ever, raising excitement levels ever higher!

You can watch the new Gameplay below

The opening scene begins with main character Sam Porter Bridges – played by “The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus, sleeping against a mountainous backdrop. After Sam reluctantly wakes, we gain control of his character, complete with his chest incubator containing his “bridge baby”. The baby must be cared for as we discover later in the footage – but grants Sam the ability to detect enemies – referred to in game as “BT’s. Sound bizarre? We haven’t even started! Upon awakening the footage shows the ability to urinate on command. The camera swings side to side as Sam relieves himself until his tank is emptied. We are later told by Kojima that any attempts to move the camera around to get a peek at the action will be thwarted by Sam turning out of view to protect his dignity – so don’t even try it (we know you want to!). After the strange slightly awkward urination scene, a huge glowing mushroom sprouts from the ground beneath Sam. Because things weren’t strange enough already!

As bizarre and pointless as this feature appears initially, Hideo later reveals this feature will be of some importance later on. Joking that the feature is obviously not the most important part of the game, he suggested when several players urinate in the same place at the same time the feature could even be used as a weapon. Way to leave us on the edge of our seats, Kojima! Sam moves on through the landscape, scanning for his next destination. He constructs a large extending ladder to ascend the cliff face to a station where he is assigned a task by an over friendly hologram played by Geoff Keighley (GamesCom Host). Kojima later reveals the Death Stranding world will be full of these so called “preppers”, some of which are integral to the storyline and others who will simply provide “good things” when appeased. Sam leaves the station and accidentally falls down a cliff face – at which point we finally see the mechanics behind soothing our bridge baby.

The baby begins to cry and Sam rocks it back and forth – achieved by shaking the controller gently from side to side using its motion detection software. Kojima later reveals it is possible to shake the controller too hard and further upset bridge baby. While Kojima remains reluctant to give away many more plot spoilers, he did confirm that Sam’s main role is to unite and “connect” the isolated cities of the world from east to west – allegedly bringing peace to a broken nation. Death Stranding is lining up to have a star studded cast including appearances from Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo Del Toro, Troy Baker, Léa Seydoux, Tommie Earl Jenkins, Nicholas Winding Refn. During his Gamescom appearance, Hideo Kojima also revealed character videos for Mama, and Bridge baby, who we will get to know as more about this exciting creation of weirdness that we can only come to expect from Metal Gear Solid producer Hideo Kojima.

Keep your eyes peeled for its release on PS4 on November 8th!
