War for the Planet of the Apes Two years after the events of Dawn Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson) and the traitorous gorilla Red . After the apes suffer unimaginable heavy losses , and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind . As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet earth .

Director by Matt Reeves

Born on April 27, 1966, Matthew Reeves is a writer, director and producer, known for his directorial work on Cloverfield (2008), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), and War of the Planet of the Apes (2017). Reeves was born in Rockville Center, New York and was childhood friends with director J.J.Abrams. Following his studies at the University of Southern California, he landed his breakout role as director of Cloverfield in 2008 which was produced by Abrams. Reeves later went on to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and is set to return as director for the third installment in the franchise, War of the Planet of the Apes in 2017.

War for the Planet of the Apes is a sequel to the 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the 2014 film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that was announced on January 7, 2014 . With director Matt Reeves returning as director. The sequel originally had a launch date of July 2016, but in January 2015 it was rescheduled to July 14, 2017. An early licensing promo gave a place holder title of Planet of the Apes, and in May 2015 it was given the provisional title War of the Planet of the Apes. The promo art was first shown at the Licensing Expo 2015 in June 2015, which also gave a place holder title of Planet of the Apes
