Original Xbox Backwards Compatibility was announced at E3 2017.

There’s still no indication from WalkingCat as to when these original Xbox games might launch for the console, but with this image and several titles also appearing on the Microsoft/Xbox store we imagine the announcement can’t be too far behind.

Spencer also teased a surprise or two for Xbox One X owners.

“There’s some stuff we’re going to talk about in that space in terms of how compatibility is going to work on Xbox One X specifically that I think people will find pretty interesting.

“Some of the games hold up really well; some of them don’t. But the gameplay mechanics and the smile you got on your face 15 years ago playing those games, those are things that are still there.

“I see it, like getting back to playing Crimson Skies, it’s fantastic, and the game actually looks really good even though it’s obviously been around.”

In 2016 games like Red Dead Redemption, the Bioshock trilogy, the Mass Effect trilogy, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion were added to the  Backwards compatibility library . While in 2017 the biggest release so far has undoubtedly been Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. At very least Xbox One users can download and enjoy a new backwards compatible title as part of October’s Games with Gold 2017 offer.

Xbox Live subscribers can now download download Medal of Honor: Airborne until the end of the month.
